PEOPLE BUILDING PEOPLE
2013
For the seventh year John
and Sue Gadsby, directors of People Building People, have brought a group from
the United States to help the people of our town – Ciudad Vieja. In the 8 days they were here they built a
complete house for a family of 4 from our church who lived in pitiful
conditions. At the same time a medical
campaign was run from our church for the town and gave out medicines and
vitamins, and they saw hundreds of people.
Dr.
Hugo Mendez fromJuarez, Mexico again gave his services free of charge for who
we are so grateful. Our missionaries Joe
and Karin Bedford with the help of Diane Agnew and helpers held a Children’s
Bible School in our main church hall and
over 100 children participated daily in learning more about Jesus and also
playing many games. This team has been coming for 6 years and they were also here just after Hurricane Agatha struck our town killing 16 people- two from our church. They helped to rebuild some of the houses and give medical assistance.
Children's Bible School was well well run by Pastor Joe Bedford, and Diane Agnew and their team Squeals of excitement were heard every day, especially
when candy was handed out! On the last
day there were many tears from both the children and the team as they said
their goodbyes. We want to thank John
and Sue Gadsby and the whole crew for the blessing they have been to the people
of our town.
I myself helped to carry 1000 bricks, or was it one? Not sure now. But it was wonderful to see so many children wanting to help as well. John Gadsby took a rest every 10 minutes but he still managed to complete the house!
This medical team were the "tops" and saw about 700 people. They were so busy I couldn't get a word in edgeways! It was a joy to see one woman who came in with an badly infested foot, and 3 days later it was healed. Well done gals.
There were so many children who has such fun but at the same time received teaching about Jesus Christ.
Many games were played outside the church. I wanted to join in but they would not let me! Horrible lot!
BAPTISMS
No sooner had we said goodbye to the group from Ohio,
then the very next day baptisms were planned. 7am was the official meeting time and at 8am
we travelled to the local swimming pool and baptized twenty two people from our
church. The sun was shining bright and after
the baptisms, everyone enjoyed themselves playing soccer, swimming
and eating a picnic breakfast.
PRAYER
God bless you all and thank you for your continued
support.
